Handcrafted Teardrop Polycarbonate Guitar Plectrum – Rhythm Playing Tool
Handmade transparent polycarbonate plectrum in shape of teardrop
Shape: Teardrop
Dimensions: Length: 36mm, Width: 26mm
Handcrafted (sawn, carved, shaped and polished) using only workshop power tools.
The plectrum is non-standard thickness for a reason. Namely, a large thickness minimizes movement, increases precision, strength and speed. Therefore playing the guitar requires less effort, which is a relief for the player. As a result, the player will have fewer muscle cramps and tensions, and more comfortable playing.
Polycarbonate is a universal material for players looking for balance:
- Durability – the plectrum is resistant to intensive use,
- Neutral sound with a bright attack – works well in rock, pop and rhythm playing.
For whom?
- Rhythm guitarists – thanks to its moderate stiffness facilitating strumming.
1. Basic Material Properties
- Composition: Polycarbonate (PC) is a thermoplastic polymer known for its exceptional impact resistance (even at low temperatures) and transparency.
- Hardness: Moderately high (approx. 70–75 on the Shore D scale), placing it between soft nylon and stiffer Delrin.
- Density: Low (1.2 g/cm³), making the plectrums lightweight but stable.
2. Effects on Sound
- Attack: Bright and clear, with well-defined transients, but less aggressive than PEEK or metals.
- Timbre: Neutral with a slight high-frequency boost - retains detail without dominating the natural sound of the guitar.
- Sustain: Shorter than metals, but sufficient to maintain clarity in fast passages.
3. Durability
- Wear resistance: High - polycarbonate is resistant to cracks, scratches and deformation even during intensive play.
- String protection: Smooth surface minimizes string wear, unlike sharper materials (e.g. steel).
If you haven’t found in my offer the plectrum you are looking for and you need a guitar pick of an unusual shape, size and thickness, don’t hesitate to ask. I am open to custom orders :)
